A Deeper Shade of Purple

It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of John Lord yesterday.
As a founder member of Deep Purple he helped to create a sound that still resonates today with the Hammond organ.  The riff on "Child in time" is one of my favourite pieces of music but within the Deep Purple catalogue it is one of many times that the organ shines through as a real compliment to Blackmores style.
Another great to join the super group in the sky.

I grew up with Deep Purple, the first track I ever heard was Speed King on Tommy Vance's show, gradually I bought all of DP's albums, through Jon I discovered other music, I recall borrowing jazz and classical LPs from Grimsby central library, I recall standing in the mud at Knebworth and Jon's apperance at the Auditorium in 2002, a sad loss, R.I.P Jon.

One of my all time favorites songs too. Guess he finally got caught by the ricochet.

Sad news.
